Wera Calls on Government to Support Renters and Local Businesses
18 March 2020
Following guidance issued by the Prime Minister on Monday, Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, has raised concerns about the impact of of the Covid-19 crisis on local businesses.
She has written to the Secretary of State for housing demanding measures to help renters. She has also written to the Chancellor asking him to provide clear guidance for businesses about how they can receive Government support during this crisis.
She said:
"The restrictions on day to day activity introduced by the government last night will have a serious impact on many workers and businesses across the country, and in Bath. I have written to the Secretary of State for Housing to ask him to introduce measures to protect renters whose incomes are affected by Covid-19. I have also written to the Chancellor to ask the government to provide clear guidance for businesses who are facing difficult months ahead.
These measures must be included in the emergency legislation that the government is introducing on Thursday to protect people across our society."
