Bath MP Looks Forward to Working with New WECA Mayor, PCC

12 May 2021

Following the announcement of the results of the 6th May elections, Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, congratulated the new West of England Combined Authority (WECA) Mayor, Dan Norris, and the new Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Shelford.

Wera Hobhouse said:

“First, I want to give huge thanks to the Liberal Democrat candidate for WECA Mayor, Stephen Williams, and to Heather Shearer, our PCC candidate, for their strong campaigns. It was certainly disappointing to see such a low voter turnout overall. All elections matter.

“I have congratulated the new WECA Mayor, Dan Norris, and the new Avon and Somerset PCC, Mark Shelford. I look forward to forging constructive working relationships with them both on behalf of the people of Bath.

“The WECA Mayor has a vitally important role to play in areas that impact everyone living and working in Bath and the region: business, skills, housing and transport, as well as economic recovery as we emerge from the pandemic.

“The Police and Crime Commissioner plays a key role as well. As a Bath resident, Mark Shelford knows the challenges and opportunities facing policing in our city. I am very pleased that he is fully behind the decision to bring a new police station to Bath agreed between the previous PCC and our Liberal Democrat run B&NES Council.

“Both Dan Norris and Mark Shelford have their work cut out for them. I look forward to meeting with them very soon to discuss the needs of the people of Bath and how we can work together to meet these.”
