Planning system in urgent need of reform after Cumbria mine decision, Bath MP tells Minister

Following the UK Government’s decision to proceed with the creation of a new coal mine in Cumbria, Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath and Lib Dem climate and energy spokesperson, challenged Michael Gove, the DHLUC Minister, on the plans. Mrs Hobhouse said that planning systems needed to be reformed so that Net Zero was at the heart of each decision and so approvals like this could not take place in the future.

The Government gave £13.6 billion to fossil fuel companies in subsidies and tax breaks from 2016-2020 yet has done little to promote a growth in the hydropower industry despite having the second highest tidal range in the world in Swansea.

During a debate on the NHS workforce crisis, Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, challenged the Health Secretary, Steve Barclay, over the Government’s failure to properly address the crisis befalling GPs. Research by the House of Commons Library, commissioned by the Liberal Democrats, shows that in the sub-Integrated Care Board of Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire has seen wait times rise by 7% in the last year alone.

Bath MP finally forces the Government to listen on bereavement support
