Wera Celebrates National Bed & Breakfast Week

26 March 2019

Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, has co-sponsored a motion to celebrate National Bed & Breakfast Week, which runs between the 18th and 24th of March...

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic-picturesque streets of our city attract millions of tourists every year. The independent B&Bs, guest houses and family-run hotels that accomodate so many of these visitors are the backbone of our local industry. They form the cornerstone of our welcome to the world, and they do an amazing job.

I met Louise, who owns Bay Tree House in Bath. Our city's independent sector is facing many challenges but it gives Bath it's character.

Outside of Bath, B&Bs play a key role in rural and coastal areas, where they are often the only tourist accommodation and play a pivotal function in supporting local livelihoods.

Based upon the reviews of millions of guests by the world's biggest travel website, the world's best B&B and four of the world's top five best B&Bs are British. Clearly this is an industry that we should be keen to both support and to protect in the future.

One of the best ways to do this, is to book directly. The motion, which has cross-party support, calls on the government to promote the message of booking directly with British B&Bs, guest houses and family-run hotels.

Wera said: “Independent guest-houses, B&Bs and family run hotels play an integral role in our community. Bath welcomes millions of tourists to our streets every year. The accommodation industry is vital in ensuring that they have a wonderful stay. I am proud to represent such a city, and am passionate about maintaining the global reputation that we have firmly established.”
