The Next Generation: Wera Speaks to Bath Uni Students

6 June 2018

During parliamentary recess, Wera Hobhouse MP was the guest speaker at an event hosted by Bath University Politics Society and Bath University Liberal Democrat Society...

Students interested in politics gathered to hear about key issues such as Brexit, society and inequality, and what it’s like to be a Member of Parliament in 2018.

The talk was a well attended event with students taking time out from revision for exams to listen to and engage with Wera on matters that were important to them.

Students were then given the opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A, and voice their points of view. Questions were raised on local issues like the Vice Chancellor's pay at the University, Wera's campaign to make "upskirting" a criminal offence, and the best outcomes from the Brexit negotiations.

Wera said:

“When I was at University, I campaigned with the anti-nuclear movement so I know the importance of becoming politically involved at a young age. To be able to talk with, and hopefully encourage students of Bath University to follow their interest in the subject is a real pleasure for me.”

"For politics to bring about much needed change in this country, people need to be involved. Events like this make me feel positively about the future of politics, and the next generation of people gaining a passion for it."
