Planting Extinction Rebellions' Gifted Tree

By Office of Wera Hobhouse, Nov 18, 2019 10:11

Wera wants to thank Sirius Wood, part of the Trafalgar Woods project in Bath, and forest manager Phil Woodruff for helping her plant a hornbeam sapling this week with BANES Councillors Sarah Warren and Neil Butters.

As a nation, we have failed to reach our target of planting 5,000 hectares of trees last year. Only 1,420 hectares were planted in England in the year to March 2019. The total tree cover of the UK is unchanged at 10% in England.

The Liberal Democrats have pledged to plant 60 million trees a year.

One day this little hornbeam will grow into a giant, absorbing tonnes of carbon and protecting the soil and water table around it.
