12 July 2024
On 12th July, Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, in one of her first engagements as the city's newly re-elected Member of Parliament, met with students from St. Martin’s Garden Primary School to attend their Careers Week. The visit aimed to inspire and educate students about careers in politics and public service.
During the visit, Wera engaged with students from years 3 to 5 in a lively Q&A session. The students asked important questions about Wera’s role as a Member of Parliament, and the issues currently being discussed in Westminster.
Mrs Hobhouse shared insights into her day-to-day routine in Parliament and outlined the career path that led her to becoming an MP.
Michael Bogg, Assistant Head at St Martin’s Garden Primary School said:
“We were delighted to meet with Wera as part of our Careers Week. The students were incredibly enthusiastic and asked insightful questions, sparking meaningful discussions about the role of MPs and the importance of community involvement. It has been wonderful to educate children on the variety of careers on offer, especially the responsibilities and challenges facing their political representatives.”
Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, commented:
“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to engage with such bright and curious young minds.
"It's wonderful to be able to show the next generation the many avenues that are open to them, especially in public service, and encourage them to go forward as the leaders of tomorrow.”
