Wera Hobhouse MP returns to Parliament, keen to resume her work championing Bath

9 July 2024

Wera Hobhouse, recently re-elected Member of Parliament for Bath, returns to the House of Commons this week.

Mrs Hobhouse was thrilled to return to Parliament on 8th July, following her re-election as Bath’s Member of Parliament the previous week. She will resume her role as the Shadow Leader of the House of Commons and Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Energy, Climate Change and Transport.

Wera Hobhouse is keen to continue her long standing work supporting Bath residents and championing local initiatives and community groups. Alongside 71 other Liberal Democrat MPs, Mrs Hobhouse’s enthusiasm as a local champion for the city shines through.

The Bath MP will continue raising the profile of key local and national issues, as she successfully did over the previous Parliament, from highlighting the closure of beloved music venue Moles to the pressing need to tackle the climate emergency as a COP28 delegate.

One of Mrs Hobhouse’s principal aims in this Parliament is to secure better healthcare for Bath residents by holding the new Labour government accountable to fix the crisis in the NHS. She has joined the Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Ed Davey, in his calls for an Emergency Health and Care Budget by the end of July to ensure that the health service gets the resources it needs and patients are given the care they deserve.

Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, said:

“I am thrilled to have returned to Parliament this week and I cannot wait to get stuck back in with the work to best represent Bath in the House of Commons.

“I would like to express my gratitude to all those who voted for me or who supported my election campaign. I will always work hard to make sure your voices are heard nationally.

“After an impressive election result for the Liberal Democrats, it is a pleasure to be joining a fantastic team of 71 other local champions, all eager to represent our communities.

“I feel energised returning to Westminster to continue supporting Bath’s wonderful residents, from resolving casework concerns to championing our exceptional community-led organisations.”
