Bath MP applauds outstanding contribution to the city at Bath Forum 90th Year Impact Report Presentation

12 January 2024

On 12th January, Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, celebrated the 90th anniversary of the Bath Forum and listened to details of their 90th year impact report, as delivered by Bryn Williams, General Manager.

Opening its doors to the public in 1934, the art deco Grade II listed Forum used the anniversary to showcase the work they do and the impact they have had on the city and its residents over the last nine decades.

After introducing the event, Mrs Hobhouse listened as Mr. Williams detailed important moments in the Forum’s history. A celebrated patron of the arts, the Forum boasts a uniquely varied programme, including introducing the Bath Philharmonia orchestra to local people via a free ticket scheme, hosting events for the Bath Children’s Literary Festival, as well as comedy shows, live music of all genres, and live podcasts, just to name a few.

Famous for platforming a wide variety of both local and international acts, the Forum has also had a significant impact on the nighttime economy. Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to Bath over the years, local, national and international, the Forum has a huge economic impact on hotels, restaurants, bars and pubs, boosting neighbouring businesses and increasing footfall in Bath.

The popular venue also functions as an important hub for students in the city, employing over 100 students and providing a warm and welcoming study space in its coffee house.

Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, said:

“I am so pleased to see the great impact this historic institution has had on the city and its residents. At the forefront of Bath’s cultural scene, the Forum has served the community for nearly a century, becoming an iconic figure in Bath’s nightlife. I am excited to celebrate their outstanding contribution and look forward to the great work they will do in the future.”

Bryn Williams, General Manager, said of the event:

“It was wonderful to have the opportunity to show Wera and the collected audience the important role The Forum plays in the city’s arts and culture sector; and the positive impact it has on the city's life and economy. As our largest live entertainment venue, The Forum continues to be a significant part of the fabric of Bath, in this the building's 90th anniversary year”
