Bath MP Presents Points of Light Award to Harmonie-Rose Allen

20 December 2023

On 20th December Wera Hobhouse MP was proud to present Harmonie-Rose Allen with the Points of Light award. Points of Light are outstanding individual volunteers – people who are making a change in their community, and every week day the Prime Minister recognises an inspirational volunteer with the daily Points of Light award.

Harmonie-Rose Allen, aged 10, from Bath, was diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia just before her first birthday, resulting in her having both arms and legs amputated. Since then she has overcome many operations, but remained determined to help others, through fundraising for meningitis charities and raising awareness of the illness and its symptoms. Her determination has been an inspiration to many in the Bath community, who helped raise money in her early years for the therapy and equipment she required.

Harmonie-Rose, whose motto is ‘if you believe you can achieve’, is a keen gymnast and acts as a role model for other young disabled children. She has raised more than £100,000 for a range of causes by completing challenges including scaling a climbing wall 100 times and completing a half-marathon. Last year, wanting to help people in Ukraine, she arranged a local donation point to coordinate care packages to be sent.

A number of her fundraising efforts have been for the charity ‘Meningitis Now’, of which Harmonie-Rose is their youngest ambassador.

Wera Hobhouse, Harmonie-Rose’s local MP for Bath, said:

“I am so delighted to present Harmonie-Rose with her Point of Light award. She is simply amazing. Her joyful zest for life, her endless positivity and her incredible determination all shine through to make her such a wonderful inspiration. She’s a true local hero here in Bath, and I’m so proud to have her in my constituency. Congratulations Harmonie-Rose – you are an absolute star!”
