Bath MP Heads to COP28 Climate Summit as Part of Official UK Parliamentary Delegation

8 December 2023

On Friday 8th December, Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath and Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Energy & Climate Change, arrived at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai as part of the official parliamentary delegation.

Mrs Hobhouse is set to attend a series of events, meetings and roundtables to feed into discussions with world leaders about the future of international climate policy. The MP is attending not only in her role as Liberal Democrat Energy & Climate Change spokesperson, but also with PRASEG - the Renewable and Sustainable Energy APPG.

She is also the Vice Chair of the Environment APPG. Upon her return, the Bath MP will relay information from the summit to her colleagues in the House of Commons.

Mrs Hobhouse will voice her calls for the UK government to reclaim its role as an international climate leader. She said COP28 must achieve real progress towards the transition to net-zero, necessary to avoid climate catastrophe.

During the conference, the MP also plans to spotlight the leadership shown by Bath residents and Bath and North East Somerset council to cut emissions and transition to a greener community.

Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath and Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Energy & Climate Change, commented:

"COP28 comes at a pivotal moment. Wildfires, floods and extreme weather, exacerbated by climate change, are unjustly displacing people across the world. I am honoured to represent the Liberal Democrats and communities across the UK as a delegate to this critical summit."

"I look forward to joining climate leaders in shaping an equitable and sustainable future for people and planet. But change must come from all sides - and the UK government must use COP28 to take the bold steps future generations need so that they can reside in a livable planet. We cannot afford this summit to be a missed opportunity."
