Bath MP welcomes delegation of Tibetan Monks to Parliament

16 November 2023

On the 14th of November, Wera Hobhouse MP met with a delegation of Tibetan Monks in Parliament.

Mrs Hobhouse welcomed Tibetan Monks to Parliament for the Tibet APPG meeting. As the Vice-Chair of the APPG for Tibet, Mrs Hobhouse has worked tirelessly to amplify the voice of Tibetan Monks whose human rights continue to be put under threat. The All-Party Parliamentary Group aims to encourage negotiations between the Chinese Government and representatives of the Tibetan Government in exile.

Mrs Hobhouse previously welcomed Tibetan Monks to Parliament in April this year, to commemorate the birthday of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the Panchen Lama. The group campaigned for Gedhun Choekyi Nyima’s release, who has been a political prisoner in China since 1995 at the age of six. He has not been seen publicly since.

Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, commented:

“It is a huge pleasure to once again welcome a delegation of Tibetan Monks to Parliament. I will continue to champion their human rights and honour the ties that Tibet has with Britain.”
