Bath MP plants Remembrance Cross with members of the 21st Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) in Parliament’s ‘Constituency Garden of Remembrance’

8 November 2022

Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, met with members of the 21st Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) in Parliament’s Garden of Remembrance to plant a memorial cross in recognition of the sacrifice made by our armed forces through all conflicts.

The Garden of Remembrance was set up last year by the Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, to be a reminder of the sacrifices made by constituents up and down the country. Each constituency is represented in the Garden with every MP having an opportunity to plant a tribute in memory of the sacrifices made by those in their community. Each tribute will also bear a handwritten message when planted. Last year, Wera Hobhouse planted a tribute in memory of the victims of the Bath Blitz.

Ms Hobhouse met with Major Clarke Fathcett and RSM WO1 David Bates of the 21st Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) and their spouses to plant a memorial cross on Monday 7th November. The regiment is based just outside Bath and has the Freedom of the City of Bath. After the cross was planted, they took time to reflect on the casualties of conflict suffered by those in Bath and this country and across the globe.

Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, commented:

“It is so important to recognise the sacrifices that people have made in defence of our freedom. Without them, our lives would be a lot more perilous today.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Major Fatchett and RSM WO1 Bates. It really brought into perspective the selfless nature of our armed forces and the need to continually recognise this every year. They truly are remarkable.

“Remembrance Sunday this weekend provides another opportunity for us all to collectively bow our heads and think of those who gave so much so we could live the lives that we do. We should be forever grateful for them and all those who have selflessly contributed to our safety.”
