Mental Health Matters

24 November 2019

Wera has been campaigning for improved support for people with eating disorders, which have the highest mortality rate of any mental health condition.

Many sufferers report being turned away, and refused referral, because doctors told them they were “too heavy” to be treated for an eating disorder. We must educate everyone, from sufferers’ families to doctors, about the many different forms these conditions can take and how best to treat them. As with all mental health issues, early intervention is key.

It is estimated that over 2,000 people in Bath suffer from an eating disorder. Many remain undiagnosed. If you or someone you know needs help, please contact the ABC Support Hub which offers a free weekly drop-in service every Thursday from 9:30 am - 5 pm at the Widcombe Social Club.
