Loan Charge Action Letter to PM and Chancellor

19 August 2019

On Monday the 19th of August Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, wrote to Sajid Javid concerning the 2019 Loan Charge Scheme.

Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, said:

“I wrote to Sajid Javid to ask that the 2019 loan charge scheme be paused in order for a full and independent review to be conducted.

Many of my constituents have come to me, over the last year, to share their stories about the loan charge scheme and I am writing to share their concerns.

Whilst I believe that closing tax loopholes is a priority, ensuring we have functioning public services that work for everyone, the way this law has been implemented is simply not fair. I am especially concerned about HMRC’s focus on individuals as opposed to the companies and agencies which encouraged the use of these payment schemes.

Before more people across this country are put at risk of losing their homes, pensions, and are declaring bankruptcy, an independent review must take place.”
