The Fight for a Tolerant, Liberal Britain Continues

8 January 2020

Today Wera joined the pro-European protestors in Parliament Square following the continued passage of the Withdrawal Agreement through Parliament.

Last night saw the defeat of the Lib Dem amendment that would ensure EU citizens have the right to appeal if the Home Office refused them Settled Status – this means that thousands of EU citizens will remain effectively undocumented from next year.

Wera shared a message of encouragement from outside Parliament’s gates, saying:

The fight to stop Brexit is over but the fight for our values continues. The campaign to stop Brexit created a powerful movement for an open, tolerant and outward looking Britain. We will continue to fight for the closest possible relationship with our European neighbours, for UK citizens in the EU and EU citizens in the UK to live without discrimination, and for a Britain that looks beyond it’s own narrow self-interest.

Our movement is alive!
