Celebrating decades of peace in Europe

4 November 2019

At this time of year we remember and honour those who have died in past wars.

We also give thanks for the almost 75 years of peace that Europe has enjoyed. At Bath for Europe’s monthly rally on Sunday, two members who spent their early years as children of war shared their experiences. Their countries were once enemies, but the two men are now friends, both passionately campaigning for Britain to remain in the EU.

Also, Simeon Wakely, a campaigner for disability awareness, spoke of his concern about the harmful impact of Brexit on those with disabilities. In the event of a no deal Brexit, the UK would lose the European Social Fund, which currently provides £500m a year to organisations in our country that provide employment and training support for people who are often neglected by mainstream providers.

The European Union is a powerful force for peace, security and wellbeing. Wera will campaign for the UK to remain a strong member of this community of nations.
