My Response to the 2020 Budget

By Office of Wera Hobhouse, Mar 12, 2020 1:03

Yesterday the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced the first budget for 2020 and this Government. It included measures to ensure the impact of Covid-19 on the economy was controlled.

In response to the Budget Statement Bath MP, Wera Hobhouse, said:
"The Budget today has shown us one thing: the Government will do almost nothing to tackle the Climate Emergency. They are encouraging car use with a vast road building project and freezing Petrol and Diesel duty, and no incentives to switch to electric vehicles.
The Chancellor should have made it his top priority to insulate our existing homes, tackling the climate emergency, and fuel poverty in one simple step.
This Budget will do nothing to get us to net zero. The Tories are failing us in the biggest issue facing our generation.
