Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, Wera Hobhouse, met with Bath based teachers George Samios from Twerton Infant School and Nursery and Jessica Lobbett from Oldfield School on 20 June in Parliament. Their discussion involved how to tackle underfunding in schools as well as addressing the recruitment and retention issues affecting the education sector.

Following the vote in Parliament yesterday (19th June) to accept the Privileges Committee report on whether or not former Prime Minister Boris Johnson misled the House, Bath MP Wera Hobhouse has slammed Rishi Sunak for avoiding the vote, saying it shows “cowardice”.

During her Pride Month debate speech on 15th June, Bath MP Wera Hobhouse called on the government to finally live up to their five year old promise to ban conversion therapy. She finished her speech by reminding the House that we cannot be complacent in the protection of LGBT+ rights and that “the government must match their words with concrete action”.

Wera expressed her condolences to the family and friends of 16-year old Mikey Roynon who tragically died over the past weekend after a fatal stabbing in her constituency.

Wera has called on Conservative MPs across the South West to vote for a motion in Parliament next week to censure Boris Johnson. It comes after the Privileges Committee recommended Boris Johnson be suspended for 90 days for “deliberately misleading” Parliament over partygate.

Many contracted NHS nurses, those who work in the NHS but are not directly employed by the organisation, in Bath are missing out on an average of £2,000 which was agreed to be given to nurses in the recent NHS pay dispute.

Last month, the Conservative government broke their manifesto promise by dropping their puppy smuggling bill. This sparked outrage amongst animal welfare groups. The Liberal Democrats have now re-tabled the government puppy smuggling bill and called on Conservative MPs to keep their promise.
